This December, Sondra Radvanovsky brings her “definitive reading” (Seen and Heard International) of Cherubini’s Medea to the Teatro di San Carlo, the first time the opera house has produced this riveting work. Widely considered as the greatest living interpreter of the role, Radvanovsky has bowed as the titular sorceress at The Metropolitan Opera, the Canadian Opera Company, Müpa Budapest, and the Lyric Opera of Chicago.

Her recent performances in Chicago earned her rave reviews. Her Medea was lauded as “a roaring force from the underworld” (Chicago Tribune) and “the ultimate scorned mother of our time….an utterly haunting singer-actor.” Others praised Radvanovsky’s “fierce emotional intelligence, a voice of heroic dimension, and a dramatic instinct that never allows the character to settle into facile villainy” (Splash Magazine) and said, “She is one of the most dynamic, emotional singers on stage today… This is singing that cuts to the bone” (Gathering Note).

Radvanovsky joins an incredible cast in Mario Martone’s new production, under the baton of Riccardo Frizza. Francesco Meli sings Giasone, with Giorgi Manoshvili as Creon, Désirée Jupiter as Glauce, and Anita Rachvelishvili as Néris.

Medea plays December 6, 10, 13, and 16.
