'Turandot' in Munich

This summer, Sondra Radvanovsky returns to the Bayerische Staatsoper, appearing as Puccini’s Turandot. “The reigning Turandot of the day” (The Guardian), Radvanovsky is widely lauded for her portrayal of the fierce princess, with Parterre praising her recording of the role with Warner Classics as “some of the most sumptuous vocalism I can recall hearing in this part,” saying, “there’s an ease to the sheer amplitude of her singing here that’s very exciting. Still,  it’s her word-pointing, coloring, and phrasing of the text that makes her interpretation absolutely unique and extraordinary.”

Conducted by Andrea Battistoni and under the direction of Carlus Padrissa, Radvanovsky is joined by Yonghoon Lee as Calaf, Christian Van Horn as Timur, Golda Schultz as Liù, Kevin Conners as Altoum, Vitor Bispo as Ping, Tansel Akzeybek as Pang, and Samuel Stopford as Pong. This acclaimed Turandot production reimagines Puccini’s classic as a sci-fi thriller set in 2046. In this dystopian future, Europe is under authoritarian Chinese rule, and the ice princess serves as a tyrannical global leader.
