Puccini's 'Manon Lescaut' at Teatro Real
This fall, Sondra Radvanovsky stars in the title role of Puccini’s Manon Lescaut at the Teatro Real. It marks a swift and celebrated return for the soprano, who triumphed on the Madrid stage just this past July in another Puccini title role, Princess Turandot in Turandot. Radvanovsky’s previous performances in Manon Lescaut have drawn widespread acclaim for her luminous vocal control and intense emotional commitment, with The Guardian noting that her clean, poignant phrasing turns arias like “In quelle trine morbide” into profound musical revelations.
Conducted by Nicola Luisotti and directed by Carlos Wagner, this new staging is a co-production with Oper Köln. Radvanovsky leads a distinguished double cast, sharing the title role with Saioa Hernández. The production also features Lucas Meachem and Szymon Mechliński alternating as Lescaut, Michael Fabiano and Jorge de León as the Chevalier Renato des Grieux, and Alejandro del Cerro and Albert Casals as Edmondo.
